Skull cap trend: cap on, lights off, cold stare

Upload one photo of yourself. You start out a little awkward in a bright room and pull a black knit skull cap down over your head. Hard cut: the lights are off, the hood is up, the glasses are gone and you stare straight through the lens.

One photo in, ten seconds out: glasses and a varsity jacket, the cap goes on, the cut lands at about 4.8 seconds and the beat drops with it. This preview is a 480p test render; your video comes in 720p.

How to make a Skull Cap Trend video

  1. Add one photo

One person, face sharp and toward the camera, head and shoulders or chest up. Glasses are welcome: they stay on before the cut and come off after it.

  2. Keep Skull Cap selected

This page opens the creator on the Skull Cap effect, so the bright room, the cap, the cut and the dark half are already set.

  3. Render ten seconds

The trend is one ten-second take with the cut just before the five-second mark, so ten seconds is the only length.

  4. Post it

The video has its own beat with a bass drop on the cut. Post it as it is, or mute it and add the trend sound when you upload.

Ways to play it

The joke is the gap between the before and the after. The bigger the gap, the better it lands:

  • The nerdiest photo you have

Glasses, a cardigan, a big smile. The more wholesome the before, the colder the after looks.

  • Your dad

Dad in his weekend fleece, then dad in a hood with a dead-serious stare. Ask him first, then send it to the family chat.

  • Your best friend

Use a photo of the friend who is the least intimidating person you know, with their blessing.

  • Girls do it too

The original is about dudes, but it works on anyone: same cap, same hood, same stare.

  • Before and after a haircut

A fresh, tidy photo for the before, and the cap covers the rest. Good for a glow-up post.

  • A duet with your own take

Film the trend for real, then post the AI version next to it and let people pick the colder one.

What is the skull cap trend?

A TikTok format from October 2026, usually captioned "How dudes act 0.01 seconds after putting on a skull cap". The before is deliberately dorky: glasses, a plain shirt, a bright room and an awkward smile. The cap goes on, the video cuts, and the same person is in the dark with a black hood up over the cap, no glasses, giving the camera a cold stare.

Doing it for real takes a skull cap, a black hoodie, two lighting setups and a clean cut. Here it comes from a single photo: your face, hair and clothes for the before, and the cap, the hood and the dark room for the after.

What comes from where

From your photo: your face, skin tone and hairstyle, your glasses if you wear them, and your clothes before the cut, so it is still clearly you after it. The room in your photo often carries over too.

From the effect: the black knit cap, the black hoodie, the lights going off, the cut just before the five-second mark and a beat that drops on it. There is no prompt to write.

The sound

The trend runs on a TikTok sound called "original sound - SoulReligion". Your video comes with its own original beat instead, quiet and a little goofy before the cut and a heavy drop on it, so it works as it is.

To use the trend sound, mute the clip when you post on TikTok, tap Add sound, search for original sound SoulReligion and line the drop up with the cut. That also links your post to the sound's page.

Why make it here

The studio behind our ai rap video generator makes these too: if a render does not finish, the credits come back on their own, and if a finished one looks wrong, tell us and we will look at it.

Effects cost 1 credit per second, so the ten-second skull cap video is 10 credits. Packs and plans are on the pricing page.

Skull Cap Trend questions

Add one clear photo of yourself, keep the Skull Cap effect selected and render. You get a ten-second vertical 720p video: the awkward before, the cap going on, the hard cut and the cold stare.
Yes, that is the classic look. If your photo has glasses, you keep them on before the cut and they are gone after it. If it has none, none are added.
Just before the five-second mark, like the take most people copy. The lights go off and the beat drops on the same frame.
No. Your video has its own original beat with a drop on the cut. To post with the trend sound, mute it on TikTok and add "original sound - SoulReligion" from the sound library.
Ten seconds, the whole take, for 10 credits. It is the only length, because the cut and the stare need the full ten seconds.
Not in one video: the trend is a solo selfie. Make one for each of you and post them side by side.
Your own, or a photo of an adult who agreed to be in the video. Do not upload a celebrity, a child or anyone who has not said yes.
