Can ChatGPT make videos? The short answer is no

By the AI Rap Video Generator team · Published

In brief

No. As of October 2026, ChatGPT does not make videos. OpenAI's video model, Sora, was closed in the app and on the web on April 26, 2026, and its API on September 24, 2026, and OpenAI has not announced a replacement. ChatGPT can still help you plan a video and write the words for it; to get the video itself from your photos, you need a tool built for that.

  1. Rooftop high where the city lights glow!
  2. Smooth like the breeze when we taking it slow!
  3. Type one line, now we got a whole song!
  4. Skyline singing while we rap along!

What happened to Sora

Sora was OpenAI's text-to-video model, and for a while it was how ChatGPT users made video. OpenAI announced its discontinuation in March 2026. The Sora app and website stopped making new videos on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API followed on September 24, 2026. Old videos could be exported for a while after that.

So a ChatGPT request like 'make a video of me and my friend' gets text back, not a clip.

Google's Gemini app can make short videos from a prompt or a reference photo on its paid plans. It is a general tool: you describe the scene yourself and try again until it looks right.

What ChatGPT is still good for

  • Picking an angle: ask for ten ideas for a birthday video for a friend who loves fantasy football.
  • Writing the words: four short lines for a rap, with the names and inside jokes you give it.
  • Planning a post: the caption, the hashtags and the best time to post.

Then take those words somewhere that turns photos into a video. On our ai rap video generator, you and a friend perform four lines you approve, on a stage you pick.

How to make a video of you and a friend from photos

  1. Add two photos

One of you and one of your friend, faces toward the camera. One photo of both works too.

  2. Say what it is about

A birthday, a roast, an inside joke. Our writer drafts four lines; you edit every word.

  3. Render

    A 12-second vertical rap video, lip-synced with a beat.

Want something shorter, with no words at all? A five-second effect needs one photo: a hug, a dance, an earth zoom out and more on the ai video effects page.

What it costs

A 720p rap video is 10 credits, and credits never expire. There is no subscription to keep. See the pricing page for packs.
